MICHAEL CLAPPER

MICHAEL CLAPPER

Originally educated in design at the Wendell Castle School in Rochester, New York, Michael now focuses on creating contemporary public and residential sculpture.

The winner of numerous commissions and awards, Michael maintains a studio in Denver Colorado. Michael has taught at the Genoa School for Design in Ithaca, New York and more recently for both the Industrial Design and Art Departments at Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado. Michael has also been invited to participate in several international sculpture symposiums where he has welcomed the opportunity to exchange ideas and techniques with people from other cultures.

“I feel that my work, created mostly from carved stone and fabricated steel, tells its story through a visual language of dignified restraint. By using materials such as stone, metal and carved graphics, I intentionally compose a natural palette of color, pattern and texture that are inherent within the materials themselves. But it is my ability to provide public artworks that convey the site’s story through a powerful simplicity of form that I am most proud.”
